WBJ Board Consulting was established in 2014 by William Bowman, Jr.. Mr. Bowman was elected to the Colleton County School Board in 2008 as the representative of the 7^th District, defeating a 12 year incumbent. In 2012, he was elected to his second school board term, receiving the support of 68% of the voting constituency. In 2018, he was elected to represent the 4^th District after some school board redistricting in 2014. He credits his service as board chairman and policy committee chairman for creating his desire to help boards across the nation. His extensive training also provides a working knowledge of school districts. Mr. Bowman’s years of public service supports his understanding of board roles and responsibilities, community representation, school district governing, and the impact of student success. He believes a well-trained, well informed, educated board will govern more effectively to achieve its desired outcomes.

Prior to his elected service, William enlisted in the United States Air Force where he obtained an Associates Degree in Cryogenics through the United States Airforce Technical Training program. He was stationed at Charleston Air Force Base, where he served during the first Gulf War, “Desert Storm.” After a four-year enlisted contract, he reached the rank of E4, and was honorably discharged from active duty. After a four-year inactive reserve contract, he ended his Air Force career.

William is married to Shelissa Bowman. They have two sons, William III and Makel. He is a member of Live Oak Deliverance Center where he serves as the Minister of Music, and Sunday School Superintendent. William is the owner of Perfect Image Portrait Studio and is a nationally certified Phlebotomist. He officiates basketball for the South Carolina High School League and South Carolina Independent Schools Association. William has officiated basketball for the NCAA in the Peachbelt, GAAC, and Big South conferences. He is also a certified professional USA Volleyball official.
